My Pharmacy Closed. What Do I Do Now?
When a pharmacy closes, the first worry is usually the next refill, especially if you are down to a few days of medication. A closure does not necessarily mean your prescriptions are lost. Many can be moved to another pharmacy, and those that cannot may be reordered by your prescriber.
Focus Pharmacy in Smyrna can request eligible prescriptions on your behalf and help you sort out which ones need a fresh order.
Start by picking where your prescriptions should go
If you would like that to be Focus Pharmacy, call us, stop in, or fill out the online prescription transfer form. If your old pharmacy is still operating, we contact them directly. If it has closed, we can help look into where its records went and what your next step should be.
What to have handy
- Your full name and date of birth
- Phone number and current address
- The name and location of your previous pharmacy
- The prescriptions you want moved
- Your prescriber's name
- Your current insurance card
If you are missing a prescription number or some other detail, give us what you have and we will see what we can do with it.
How a transfer actually goes
- You call, visit, or submit the online form.
- We review your prescription list and the details about your previous pharmacy.
- We request the eligible prescriptions from that pharmacy or from whoever now holds the records.
- We reach out when the transfer is done, or sooner if we need something else from you.
Some prescriptions, including those with no refills remaining and certain controlled medications, may require a new prescription rather than a transfer. Our team will tell you which of yours fall into that category so you are not left guessing.
When the closing came without warning
Closure notices often name the pharmacy or company that took over the prescription files. Check your mail, email, texts, and any sign posted at the store, since the information is frequently there in small print. If you cannot find it, bring us the closed pharmacy's name and address and we will go from there.
Reach out before an important medication runs out. Locating records or getting a new prescription written can take a few extra days, and that cushion matters.
Switching by choice
You do not need a closure as a reason. People transfer because they moved across town, because a different location fits their week better, or because they want a pharmacy where the staff knows their name. The process is the same either way.
Transfer to Focus Pharmacy
Bring whatever prescription and insurance information you have. Start online, call for transfer help, or stop by our Smyrna location.
